Technical Excellence And Sartorial Poetry Unite At Issey Miyake Spring/Summer 2023

A joyful tribute to the late founder of the maison.

Issey Miyake SS23

The Issey Miyake show was a joyful tribute to the late founder of the maison. For this collection, artistic director Satoshi Kondo interpreted with “ a touch of playfulness” the immense sartorial legacy of the designer through exciting silhouettes and injections of pastel and neon colours. In a crescendo from utilitarian style in black and white, all the way up to the pleated textiles that give shape to tri-dimensional geometries on sinuous dresses and anemone-like tops, technical excellence and sartorial poetry unite.

The essential comfort and liberty of movement, at the basis of the Issey Miyake design process, is put to the test in an exhilarating dance at the end of the show. With a palette of blushed pink and terracotta, and weightless fabrics that envelope the jumps, splits and contortions of the dancers, clothes and bodies become one.
