Keep up with all the best pieces from Baselworld 2017 as Executive Editor Charmaine Ho reports live from Switzerland. Today, we round up the most stunning pieces from Jaquet Droz, Hublot, Ole Lynggaard, Glashütte Original and Corum.
We couldn’t have started the day on a better note than with Philippe Delhotal, La Montre HERMÈS‘ Creative Director, who shared details on the inspirations and directions behind the brand’s 2017 line up over morning coffee. In addition to telling us about the stealth Cape Cod Shadow we saw yesterday, he goes on to tell us about why the brand has decided to continue its tradition of watches that tell time in their own fun-loving (and wonderfully defiant) kind of way. Read more about this in our print edition soon!
Then, it’s off to the lovely JAQUET DROZ to gaze on their new collection for the year ahead. Famed for their automatons, this year sees the brand unveiling the Loving Butterfly Automaton watch, with a butterfly that flaps its wings on demand. Taking over 3 years to develop and 3 pending patents, the watch’s 3D dial bears a cherub in a chariot drawn by a butterfly surrounded by trees. Also big news for the brand is the introduction of a new Moon Phase into its signature Grande Seconde collection.
Things are crystal clear at HUBLOT as it continues offering its clear sapphire crystal case on new models, including the Big Bang Unico Magic and Spirit of Big Bang. As for the Big Bang Unico Sapphire line it launched last year, there are 2 new colours (red and the more difficult to produce, blue) to entice. Also keep a look out for its tattoo-inspired Big Bang done in collaboration with Sang Bleu and an array of sartorial pieces from its 3rd collaboration with Italia Independent.
For a different pace, we headed to OLE LYNGGAARD at Hall 2 to speak with Charlotte Lynggaard, daughter of the brand’s eponymous founder and current designer, to find out more about the nature-inspired brand. The big news for the year? A new Wild Rose collection, inspired by a bloom found in Charlotte’s garden and delicately hand-etched by the brand’s master goldsmiths. Oh, and lovely blush moonstones that have taken her fancy. Read more about this in our print edition soon!
Ending the entire Baselworld 2017 for us is GLASHÜTTE ORIGINAL, where it’s all about its Caliber 36 and its 100 hours power reserve and innovative fastening system: It’s fixed onto the case like how you would attach a lens onto your camera, by slotting it in before twisting it. Although the movement was released last year to much fanfare (its rigorous testing sees each watch equipped with the caliber released with its own certificate of excellence), this year sees Glashutte releasing it in the Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar.
Go through the gallery above for more details on the individual watches.
