From Blade Runner to Star Trek, I love a good sci-fi movie as much as the next Trekkie. But aside from the storyline and special effects, I also take into consideration the costumes before rating a film. With looks fit for the heroines battling it out in the highly-anticipated sci-fi blockbusters coming up this year, it seems like designers had science fiction films on their minds when working on the spring/summer 2017 collections too.
Think Scarlett Johansson as Major in Ghost in the Shell wearing a thermoptic bodysuit straight out of Givenchy, or Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s leather-clad Gamora (played by Zoe Saldana) looking like she just walked off Versace’s runway. If I were in a science fiction movie, I’d be dressed in a look from Louis Vuitton. Inspired by its hardware-adorned gold jacket, I’d be suitably armoured with Tiffany & Co.’s Schlumberger ring and Cartier’s Mysterious Double Tourbillon timepiece. Of course, I’d also need Valentino’s side-shield sunglasses to protect my eyes from glaring beams, and sleek pointed-toe pumps from Stella McCartney for my victory strut.
Finally, Carven’s lace top and fresh notes from Alaïa Paris’ Eau de Parfum Blanche would add an unexpected twist to the sartorial plot. Now, I’m ready to fight off aliens and save the planet in my power-packed sci-fi ensemble.
