Flags in mid-flutter
image
"Sometimes an abstract image is all you need to convey your message - especially one like National Day where you KNOW exactly what you are seeing, even if the flag is mid flutter. I used the wide-angle lens of the iPhone 7 Plus to make this image and the incredibly high shutter speed of the iPhone’s camera froze the flag as it was moving in the wind. of course, composing the flag against the Singapore skyline was not an afterthought as well." People’s Park Complex

"Some of the best angles are found when you look up. I discovered the juxtaposition of colour between People’s Park Complex and the National Flags while photographing at the roof top car park and thought the greens and yellows would really stand out against the reds and whites. Again, this image was made with the OOWA ultra wide angle attachment on the iPhone 7 Plus." Photo: Darren Soh
Flags in the Sun
image
"Shooting INTO the sun may not always be an obvious way to make a photo, but in this instance, because the National Flag is slightly translucent, it managed to block the sunlight YET appear to glow in the light. Slightly underexposing the image also makes the background of the image less distracting, allowing me to focus solely on the flags. This image was made with the wide-angle lens of the iPhone 7 Plus." "Take advantage of the burst mode of your iPhone camera to capture a picture perfect moment especially when your subjects are moving. It is also good to use it when you are the one moving so you have better chances of getting sharper and well composed shots." Photo: Franz Navarrete

Iconic HDBs

"To get these shots, find a vantage point to shoot all these flags. It could be HDB flats or higher ground. Then climb to higher floors to get a good angle. It might be difficult or far from where you are. Therefore, using the tele-photo mode is the best here! All of these photos are shot with the telephoto mode. Don't forget to focus on the flags to get a clear shot of it.” Photo: Yafiq Yusman

Singapore Airport Arrival - Arriving Home

"After every long trip, I always have this smile when I leave the aircraft, go through immigration, pick up my luggage from the carousel, and stepped onto the arrival hall. It's usually my 1st feeling of being 'HOME'." Photo: Wee Swee Ong

"Of course, the favourite subject of Singaporeans - food! So imagine after going away for 15-months, no matter whether you had Asian food in your travels, the feeling of tucking into your favorite cha-kway-teow or fishball noodle back in Singapore is divine! Even more so, that feeling of having it in my favourite local food joint - the hawker centre - is quintessential HOME!" Photo: Wu Swee Ong
Singapore HDB flats - The Place I Call Home
image
"I was taking the taxi from the airport after coming back from a long trip. I remember I was looking out of the taxi window when rows and rows of the familiar buildings flashed across my view. Like most Singaporeans, I live in a HDB flat all my life, and the images of these flats brought a smile onto my face. That moment screams 'I am coming HOME!'" Photo: Wu Swee Ong
