The start of the new year means the return of some of our favourite series and some brand-new ones. If 2022 meant anything for television, it signaled that there is a lot to be excited about for 2023, like the return of Yellowjackets, Succession, and You, and new series like The Last of Us and Daisy Jones and the Six. Here are the 15 top shows we can’t wait to watch.
That ‘70s Show is back, just in a whole new decade with a new group of friends. The show centers on the teenage daughter of Eric Forman and Donna Pinciott, Leia Forman, as she spends the summer with her grandparents, Red and Kitty in Point Place, Wisconsin. For anyone that’s a fan of the OG series, this is something you’ll have to tune into.

As one of the most divisive shows on television, the spinoff of Sex and the City will return for its second season so we can get back to following Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte around New York City. While the first season had its fair share of drama, like Big’s death, Samantha’s absence, and Che Ramirez, the second season teases the return of Carrie’s former boyfriend Aidan and hopefully less grief and more happiness.

Get ready to live out your rock band dreams and venture back to the ‘70s with the limited series adaption of Taylor Jenkins Reid's 2019 cult-classic novel. Produced by Reid and Reese Witherspoon, the series will follow a legendary band in Los Angeles from their breakout days to their dramatic breakup, chronicling the drama and love triangles that unfold. Starring Riley Keough, Sam Claflin, Suki Waterhouse, and more, the series is sure to provide a glaring look into the ‘70s.
The Limited Series will premiere on Amazon Prime on March 3.
The drama series that serves as a reimagined version of the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air will return for a second season, following Will as he moves from West Philadelphia to one of LA's wealthiest suburbs to live with his relatives.

After an amazing debut on Netflix in April, the LGBTQ series based on the young adult graphic novel of the same name by British author Alice Oseman was quickly picked up for a second and third season. Following teens Charlie and Nick as they discover that their friendship might be something more, the series was acclaimed for its portrayal of gay teens, especially as Nick begins to understand his sexuality and its heartfelt tone. It’s a series that leaves you feeling giddy after watching, so we’re hoping to get back into it as soon as we can.

The final season of Mindy Kaling’s comedy Never Have I Ever is set to air this year and I’ll tearfully tune in. Starring Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as the messy Devi Vishwakumar, the series is profound in its centering on a young Indian-American girl and the struggles she has as she tries to navigate high school. As the seasons have gone by, we’ve encountered many love interests and storylines, with a heart toward Devi overcoming the grief that her father’s passing brought her. Even though we might not be ready to say goodbye, we’re excited about the final season.
Season 4 will air on Netflix in 2023.
The Pogues are back. Set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, the series follows a group of teens as they try to locate the lost Cross of Santo Domingo. Though season 2 ended with them failing and escaping to a deserted island, the crew ended up together safely, which was enough to celebrate. As for what’s in store for the third season? Who’s to know what to expect, except that John B’s dad is alive and the pogues are sure to get into more trouble.

While we wait for the next season of Bridgerton, at least we’ll have a prequel spin-off to keep us company. Following the iconic Queen Charlotte’s (Golda Rosheuval) rises to power, we’ll witness her as a young girl and learn more about her need for drama. Maybe we’ll even learn about what’s going on with her husband and why she hates Lady Whistledown so much.

Everyone’s favorite evil family returns to business as usual this spring, which means utter chaos and lots of backstabbing. The Emmy-winning show is known for breaking any expectations that it might garner as it follows the Roy family and the drama of controlling the international media conglomerate Waystar Royco. After the shocking season 3 finale of season 3, where the Roy siblings finally bound together to fight their father only for Shiv’s husband to turn on her, I’m most excited for the siblings to be back together this season and for the ultimate showdown that has to happen between Tom and Shiv. Plus, Cousin Greg of course.

The final season of the 1950s comedy should be hitting our screens this year, signaling our time to say goodbye to the Maisel family, ready or not. The Emmy-awarded series, created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, has followed Midge Maisel as she embarks on her journey to becoming a comic and it has not been an easy one. But the fifth season is sure to bring her storyline to a close, hopefully solidifying her relationship with Luke Kirby’s Lenny Bruce. And for all you Everything Everywhere All At Once fans out there, Stephanie Hsu is back in her role as Mei Lin.

The HBO primetime Sunday night timeslot will be filled once again in early January with the much-anticipated series, The Last of Us. Based on a popular video game, the series follows Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, a smuggler tasked with protecting the 14-year-old as they trek through the post-apocalyptic world. The show also stars Nico Parker, Nick Offerman, and Storm Reid, and from the creators of Chernobyl, it’s sure to be the apocalypse venture of the year.

We don’t know much about this HBO series except that it’s going to be iconic. From Sam Levinson, the creator of Euphoria, and Abel Tesfaye (commonly known as The Weeknd) the series is all about the mess of Hollywood and pop stars. With Lily-Rose Depp as the showrunner and rising pop idol and The Weeknd as the leader of a modern-day cult who enters into a complicated relationship with Depp’s character, the cast also includes Dan Levy, Troye Sivan, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Hari Nef, Rachel Sennot, Suzanna Son, Steve Zissis, Nico Hiraga, and Blackpink’s Jennie.
The series will premiere on HBO Max in 2023.
Even if you don’t know The Mandalorian, you know baby Yoda. The first Star Wars live-action series debuted in 2019 is returning this year to stir up more adventure in the galaxies after the fall of the Galactic Empire. Starring Pedro Pascal as a lone gunfighter, the series is sure to have an exciting new season to satisfy any Star Wars fan.
The third season will air on Disney+ on March 1.
After Showtime’s creepy cannibalistic and somewhat supernatural thriller about a high school girl's soccer team that gets stranded in the wilderness for 19 months aired in late 2021, it’s all I’ve been thinking about. Bouncing between two timelines – the girls in the immediate aftermath of the 1996 plane crash and the survivors 25 years later – the series chronicles female friendship in the aftermath of trauma and balances the psychological horror that viewers are slowly unfolding with intimate portrayals of friendship. After a shocking season finale, we’re eager to venture back to the world of the Yellowjackets for season 2 and meet some new adult counterparts (Van! Lottie!) that will join the talented Melanie Lyneksy and Christina Ricci.
Season 2 will air on Showtime on March 24.

Did you miss Joe Goldberg or was it just me? Penn Badgley returns as the creepy and obsessive character in the fourth season of You, though this time he’s showing up as Professor Jonathan Moore as he embarks on a whole new life in London, which will probably involve some murdering and lots of new characters. With Victoria Pedretti’s character, Love Quinn, dead and their baby abandoned, it’ll be interesting to see what new trails unfold and who Joe latches onto next.
