As an homage to the spirit of London, Burberry has launched a fresh new fragrance, Mr. Burberry, that captures the city’s great contrasts of youth, tradition, elegance and sensuality.
Created in collaboration with celebrated perfume master, Francis Kurkdjian, the scent mixes grapefruit, cardamom and nutmeg oil, among other notes, grounded by a deliciously sexy base note of earthy sandalwood. The effect is a contemporary creation that starts with an opener that is both spicy and uplifting, while the warmth of the woody accent lingers throughout the day and ends with a rich, smokey flourish. “[It’s a] contemporary yet classically British in its structure, Mr. Burberry radiates modern and masculine sensuality,” Kurkdjian shares.
Meanwhile, the perfume campaign strikes a perfect metaphor to the essence of the scent. Shot in London by Oscar and Turner Prize-winning British director, Steve McQueen, the commercial film is shot on 70mm film. “There are only roughly six of these (70mm film) cameras in existence in the world, [so] this is a unique proposition. [It’s a] sensual moment in time for two lovers, which was intimate but in actuality was epic,” says McQueen.
Starring fellow Britons, Josh Whitehouse (actor, musician) and Amber Anderson (model, actress), the short movie tracks their chance meeting, a passionate encounter and an expansive view of the city from the balcony of their hotel room, whilst Benjamin Clementine’s ‘I Won’t Complain’ plays in the background.
And of course, Mr. Burberry’s hero is decked out in the accompanying suits and trench coats that are part of the collection of ready-to-wear pieces and accessories released to accompany the launch.
Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer, best sums it up, “It is our most significant men’s fragrance to date. Inspired by the iconic trench coat and by London, a city of great contrasts and contradictions. It perfectly encapsulates a mood and an attitude that today’s Burberry man will recognise as his own.”
