To celebrate Christian Dior‘s relationship with China, the fashion house presented their Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2018 collection in Shanghai recently. On top of that, 12 brand new, exclusive pieces were added to the collection that was inspired by the Surrealist movement. Exploring themes of optical illusions, the new pieces are in line with the original couture theme but are in deep shades of crimson to pay homage to China. These include ball gowns, masks, pant-suits and pleated capes, all designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri.
The vibrant shade of red represents not just China’s fascinating, rich culture but also links the country to Monsieur Dior himself, who had an affinity for the colour. To him, it represented a passionate, positive force that drives life itself. This passion mixed with Surrealist art is reflected in the new exclusive pieces added for the Shanghai show.
