In honour of the 25th anniversary of the fashion insider’s item which changed it all, Fendi presents its ‘FENDI by Marc Jacobs‘ capsule collection featuring redesigns of the iconic Baguette, soon to hit stores worldwide as well as the brand’s website. In a press release, the brand’s artistic director of womenswear Kim Jones called Jacobs “the king of fashion in America,” describing it as an “interpretation” of the house’s iconic design codes rather than a standard designer collaboration.

The collection aims to capture the glamour of grit of New York through parachute train skirts, balloon-backed denim jackets, rustling opera capes, and fluorescent recycled fur stoles. The pieces celebrate the diverse and vibrant culture of the city, paying homage to its true character of resilience and beauty.
It’s a timely drop for the new collection, which was first shown in a glittering, star-studded show at New York Fashion Week, nearly two decades after Sarah Jessica Parker first uttered the word ‘baguette’ on primetime television. Now, that very show on which the Baguette first came to fame is seeing a reboot of its own. In a press release, Jacobs said cheekily of the Baguette that “It’s a bag – and I am never one to shy away from an iconic bag.”

Jacobs’ take on the Baguette comes with mini versions of itself attached, a cheeky nod to the Baguette’s own history and legacy. It’s hard to find a fashion accessory these days which has made such an impact on pop culture, and carries just as much value as a collector’s item.
