Oscar-winner Amy Adams lit up the screen with her show stopping performance in American Hustle, but what we couldn’t take our eyes off of were her Gucci accessories… Horsebit necklaces, Bamboo Lady Lock bags… it was a feast for our fashion eyes.
But giving movie stylists free rein of Gucci’s vintage pieces is only a small part of what Gucci has recently been doing for the movie industry. As we discovered, this Italian powerhouse has been doing a lot more behind the scenes.
To help preserve our movie heritage Gucci has joined with The Film Foundation to help restore some of the world’s most iconic films. Under the banner of “Cinema Visionaries” Gucci has helped restore such stand-out pieces as La Dolce Vita, A Women Under The Influence and most recently, James Dean’s triumph Rebel Without A Cause. Director Martin Scorsese, who launched The Film Foundation, says how with the help of Gucci, the team was able to give La Dolce Vita a new burst of life: “We’ve been able to restore this film from the original widescreen negative and bring it back to its original splendour.” Visitors to the Italian Film Festival at the National Museum of Singapore in April were able to see this revamped piece. But this looks as if it is just the start as Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini explains how important it is to hold on to such cinematic masterpieces: “Through preservation, the vision of legendary filmmakers like Federico Fellini can continue to inspire us as well as future generations.”■
