Vauthier is a designer who loves the unabashed glamour of the ’80s. It should come as no surprise that a Jean-Paul Goude photograph of Grace Jones pulled rank on his mood board. There are the bold shoulders, the high shine metallics, the boyish suits, the Philip Treacy wide brim Boy George hats to prove it. But in the ’80s designers celebrated the ’50s, and for the first time for Vaulthier, there was a nod to that era, with strapless, waist-cinching gowns in confection colors. But who cares what decade an idea first came about, all that matters is if you can dance the night away in it tonight.
