An Exclusive Look Inside The Hermès 'Avec Elle' Exhibition in Tokyo
The French luxury brand conjured up the magic of the silver screen for its celebration of the FW18 Women's Universe
Get ready to fall under Hermès' cinematic spell this fall/winter 2018 season. To celebrate its Women's Universe for the new season, the French luxury house has spirited up the magic of the silver screen in an immersive new exhibition in Tokyo: 'Avec Elle'. The name translates to "with her" in English and it follows the journey of a writer who becomes besotted with a woman he sees on screen, and wants to find out more about this alluring yet elusive beauty.
Dreamed up by French filmmaker Laure Flammarion, who curated the exhibition, Bali Barret, artistic director of the Hermès women’s universe, and Nadège Vanhée-Cybulski, artistic director of women’s ready-to-wear, the exhibition plays with the world of movies, placing the audience in front of sets that tell the story of the writer's journey to discover more about the woman with whom he is entranced.
From lavish sets recreated in painstaking detail, set ups that mirror actual movie production and backstage areas with the chicest props we've ever seen (all Hermès, of course), one cannot help but be drawn into the narrative of the writer's story, all the while being delighted at having the ability to "peek into a dressing room, slip between sets, whisper in hushed tones between takes, improvise as an extra and daydream at the sight of the costume reserve."
