The Grand Palais Éphémère was completely decked in tweed for the Chanel show. Guests were welcomed with two magnificent camellias in the venue as well as a live camellia on their seats. “The camellia is more than a theme, it’s an eternal code of the House,” explained Viard on her inspiration from the flower. “I find it reassuring and familiar, I like its softness and its strength.”
The camellia was rendered in print and 3D forms on mainly grayscale looks—tweed jackets and dresses in black and white prints, feather-embellished black sweaters, blossoming collars on leather trench coats, and floral biker shorts and lace tights—a contemporary take on the house’s signature motif. “The faded colours, the dusky pink, the crafted pieces, the touches of 1960s and 70s, a certain English vibe, the comfortable, enveloping coats, the authentic materials, make the collections more real, and more charming too,” explained Viard.
