It is the first day of London Fashion Week and true to the city’s reputation—it rained in the English capital. Outside the Brewer Street Car Park, the weather was positively dreadful! But inside the relatively new home of the Week, Ryan Lo’s show made it just ever so delightful.
Dedicating his Spring/Summer 2017 collection to his fashion hero, the late Sonia Rykiel, Lo’s collection was a cheeky melange of delirium that could also pass off as a love letter to one of his other fashion heroes—John Galliano.
Girls with pencil-thin brows, bright eyes and graphic lips marched to the tune of The Bangles’ Walk Like An Egyptian, wearing the designer’s signature silhouette of ruffles and tiers—reincarnated for warmer days by the addition of shiny metallic lurex and harem trousers worn under pretty dresses.
From naughty Victorian pirates in marabou trimmed tricorns, to mischievous Venetian court jesters in oversized knits, the Fashion East alumnus took us around the world in 26 looks—a fitting jubilant fashion fantasy post Brexit.
