Friends of the Central Saint Martins graduate and LVMH Prize semifinalist Dilara Findikoglu will know that she is incredibly passionate about politics. Whether it is through frequent Facebook posts about her views on the political landscape both in the U.K. and her native Turkey, or a visual commentary executed through the narrative of the clothes she designs, the Turkish designer is adept in making powerful statements.
This season is no exception, as Findikoglu has chosen to take us all to church, literally, to formally introduce her Spring/Summer 2018 collection. Otherwise known as her cult: The Seven Sisters of Inherited Sun, sees her followers speak of a time – possibly in the not too distant future – when humanity is lost and the powers that be have forsaken them. Swerving dangerously close to home, this collection is incredibly relatable and a total departure from her Fall/Winter 2017 offerings six months ago.
This season, it is all about throwing caution to the wind and disregarding conventions. “Welcome to the dark side” proposed the designer – whose logo also boasts the Turkish crescent and the star – as her devotees parody believers-alike, rebels, thinkers, politicians, religious leaders, royals and even Divine Providence herself. These immortals and sinners are all dressed in Findikoglu’s decadent take on form and proportion – crossing paths in an actual house of God in East London.
