Jonathan Anderson's notes quoted interior designer David Hicks, "The excitement of today is the freedom of the individual to make his own choice and the best range of possibilities from which he may choose." While Hicks' brand and J.W. Anderson may seem like polar opposites, both are marked with confidence, colour and a freedom of colour and graphics. Especially Anderson's fall collection.

While it may seem like there was a lot going on, Anderson stuck to a few main themes. Swoops of fabrics that undulated around the body like tiers of layer cake, graphic appliqués, sporty elements and zippers. With those ideas, there was plenty of room to play with miniskirts and dresses, mesh tuxedo shirts, flared multicoloured skirts and voluminous skirts.

Tunics and flared pants showed up with gauzy sleeves and zippered details. It was a bit sci-fi done head-to-toe, but this is the kind of look you'd see at a party and think "wow."

Hoodies and outerwear were done in different fabrics and materials, from fur to quilted silk, some with a Japanese warrior feel, others with tri-colour trims and subtle frills. He paired voluminous tops with voluminous minis, accented with zippered mini hoods and capes. And every look was about proportion, texture and finish. One of the best looks was a black leather skirt, it's cloud-like panels outlined in zippers.

That same cloud idea was seen a few looks later in a cream silk version that created a softer, more feminine line, especially paired with an asymmetric pink and purple sweatshirt with a looping turtleneck. As far-out as some of it may have looked, it's a sure bet that this runway will be influencing silhouettes of others for next season. Anderson is quickly proving himself to be one of fashion's brightest new guard.
