For fall/winter 2019, Max Mara creative director Ian Griffiths looked to Nancy Pelosi (speaker of the United States House of Representatives) for inspiration. Pelosi, who wore a bold red power coat by the brand to the important December 2018 meeting with Trump over the border wall, featured heavily on Griffiths’ mood boards. The collection started with a trio of colour-blocked looks in electric blue, turquoise and yellow. Animal print made an appearance in the form of chunky zebra and giraffe print sweaters, while knee-high boots amped up the sophistication.
