Maximilian Davis’ sophomore effort at Ferragamo showcases a more sure footing on his position at the Florentian leather house. If at his debut the looks were hinged on some degrade numbers – supposedly to evoke the sense of new dawn – this time Davis offers a clearer and more vivid perspective. The signature Ferragamo red appears in head-to-toe looks for the men or bodysuits with off-shoulder tops for the women. (The other hue that Davis works on are bright yellow and blue, as well as some sparkly Bordeaux, silvers and golds). This vivid crimson also cleverly peeps through seams on some of the sporty jackets or coats.

Speaking of sports, Davis is well-versed in the language of youth, and that comes in handy to reinvent Ferragamo’s modern sportswear offerings. The pants on women were cut high-waist like riding pants, and some even come with stirrup details. The tailored jackets are paired with hot shorts and the racer-back tops are cut low enough to appeal to the younger audience. This collection is modern and sophisticated, far more than his first outing at Ferragamo. How about the accessories? It seems like Davis is still exploring the structured bags and heels in the Y2K spirit that he introduced last season. Might as well, since the reception of his accessories have been welcomed for changing the course of Ferragamo’s trajectory. Everyone knows that in fashion, the second attempt is always harder and will always be scrutinised. But far more important than that is to be consistent with the vision. And Davis is good at that.
