What You Need To Know About The New TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4

Generation next

As the saying goes: You can tell a lot about a person by the watch he or she wears. Especially if it’s a smartwatch that offers the latest technologies while paying respectful homage to the traditions of watchmaking. And that’s where TAG Heuer’s Connected collection comes in.

Launched in November 2015, TAG Heuer’s Connected watch made waves for being the first smartwatch to be released by a luxury Swiss watch brand. A game changer that brought something new to the table — one that was, until then, mainly dominated by wrist products for techies and fitness buffs — it melded the design aesthetic and craftsmanship of traditional watchmaking with the latest smartwatch technologies, promising watch lovers the best of both worlds with confidence, without the need for compromise, and carving for itself a niche in the market that soon saw others jostling for space.

Seven years later and TAG Heuer’s fourth generation of Connected wrist-takers show that the watchmakers remain as committed and dedicated to its vision. The new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 not only comes with an improved battery life, expanded sports and wellness apps, more watch face options and a sleeker case design, but is also now available in a new 42mm case size along with the pre-existing 45mm — great news for people with smaller wrists looking for a comfortable and stylish fit.

What You Need To Know About The New TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4
Suave New Looks

Scaling down on the rugged-sporty vibes of the 45mm, the new 42mm watch features a thinner steel case with ergonomic steel pushers and an integrated bracelet for heightened elegance that fits snugly under a crisp shirt cuff. The ceramic bezel of its precursors has also been done away with, making way for a domed sapphire crystal glass to offer maximum surface area for ease of use and interaction without risking a manicured nail. As for the 45mm edition (available in steel and titanium), it has likewise been redesigned for added ergonomics with flowing lines, a large crown and push buttons—easily accessed with just the fingertips—making it intuitively easy to use while on the go.

To accompany the watches’ new streamlined looks is a fresh range of stylish watch faces to add a further touch of visual excitement to the day. From the futuristic to the nebulous, the graphic and the mathematical, the new selection is grounded with an expanded menu of traditional mechanical watch faces that tap on TAG Heuer’s 160-year heritage for fine watchmaking.

It’s clear that the brand has given much thought to ensuring that you find a face to suit your mood, occasion or needed purpose, with new digital features that display live updates—on anything from the weather to your wellness—on your watch face. It’s information you need when you need it, delivered through a high-definition, high-fidelity colour reproduction screen for an enhanced viewing experience.

As for functionality on the fitness front, think of the watch as a personal trainer that sits on your wrist, thanks to the TAG Heuer Sports app’s added ability to now deliver guided workout routines.

With exercise programmes with preset lengths of seven minutes each, the Sports app lets you choose from workouts for the upper body, the lower body and the entire body, then guides you through your pick via on-screen prompts and animations that do away with the need for a smartphone or television. Not satisfied with the preprogrammed routines? Then up the ante and customise your own workout routine with the phone vibrating whenever it’s time for you to move on to the next set of exercises.

As with previous versions of the TAG Heuer Sports app, you can still keep track of your running, cycling, swimming, golf and walking performances but with more accuracy for outdoor activities, thanks to a new altimeter function—which works seamlessly alongside the watch’s other sensors such as the accelerometer, heart rate monitor, compass and GPS—that takes the altitude of your current location into consideration.

TAG Heuer expects this watch to be used extensively and has equipped it accordingly. The new 42mm and 45mm watches run on Google’s Wear OS and come with an all-day battery life with continuous use of the wellness app. (In the latter model, the battery life is 30 percent longer than its precursors’, for intensive sports performance tracking throughout the day.) They are also equipped with Bluetooth 5.0, which allows for data transfer at twice the speed to ensure a faster and smoother synchronisation.

The icing on the cake? TAG Heuer’s new exclusive trade-in programme that allows customers to bring in their old TAG Heuer Connected watches for trade-in credits that go towards the purchase of a new Connected Calibre E4 watch. And with TAG Heuer’s commitment to sustainability seeing the old watches and accessories being carefully dismantled for reusable materials, you do so with peace of mind for the utmost in style and function.
