New York Fashion Week: 10 Best Looks from Michael Kors Collection FW17

Kors does what he does best: sophisticated, elegant contemporary fashion for modern women

Michael Kors designs clothes for the modern woman, and most importantly, for all women. His fall 2017 runway featured the usual faces. Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, and Natashy Poly all walked, but the show also included a diverse cast of additional models in terms of age and race, including plus size model Ashley Graham. Kors has American sportswear in his blood. It’s easily spotted in every one of his collections, each one a dazzling, impeccably made nod to fashions of the past. This season was no exception.

Wide shoulders and defined waists suggested a play between masculine and feminine that translated into a heavily menswear-inspired collection with luxe twists. The show opened with a Kors staple — a camel cape-coat that could easily become a wardrobe essential. As always, Kors used the most luxurious textiles with reckless abandon, but under his careful watch, they were always employed in the most tasteful ways: pleated trousers, a herringbone tulip skirt paired with a glen plaid wool cocoon jacket, and a black leather midi skirt were highlights of the collection.

Not one to shy away from the glamour quotient, Kors sent numerous fur coats down the runway, the most spectacular example being a black longhair fox number that was as sumptuous to the touch as it was splendid to the sight. A series of fringe dresses closed the show, swinging wildly as the models marched. Kors suggests that the collection was “covered-up sexiness,” and indeed, the fashions seen on the runway today were as smart and sophisticated as they were alluring and sexy.
