When you enter into Demna Gvasalia's Balenciaga, there is a feeling of being suspended in the 'now'. And suspended we certainly were, seated in the grandstand of a massive recreated indoor sports stadium, half submerged in dark water, which the models charged through in thigh high galoshes and toed sneakers. The collection took us through whiplashing juxtapositions of black cocoon coats giving off monkish austerity, sensual sculptural tailoring that channeled Cristobal's Balenciaga and sporting gear, like football jerseys sporting the brand as the team logo.
