Rei Kawakubo based her latest Comme des Garçons collection on Virgina Woolf’s “Orlando“, a tale of a poet who transforms from male to female and traverses the times. A sequel to the men’s show back in June (Act I), Act II saw extravagant fabrics, rich embroidery, glinting brocades that decreased with each subsequent look, ending off with black, minimal and amorphous looks. Act III will be taking place in Vienna in December, at the premiere of Olga Neuwirth’s opera adaptation of the literary masterpiece.
