Giambattista Valli did not hold back on the frills, ruffles and lace for fall. His women like the hyper-femininity a good flounce can provide, and Valli is more than happy to provide.
His theme was black, white and red with cherry and strawberry motifs worked in on delicate prints and sequin embroidery. Too sweet, you might think, except for the cinched waists and fit-and-flare silhouettes that were very grown up.
There was a sense of fun in the way cherries, strawberries and even lips showed up in lace dresses that often had a peekaboo nature—black bras and high waist boy-cut briefs are the new evening accessory. Valli also paired several detailed jackets with Nike leggings, worn with lace-up booties. Athleisure for after-dinner? Hmmm.
We’d prefer to imagine the cinch-waisted polkadot lace dresses on the runway, their high collars and long sleeves hinting at Victorian prudery except that Valli showed them in see-through white or shocking red.
Valli‘s couture-like polish was in full force for the finale round of gowns, all long and with ruffled flutes, giant bows or covered in fruits he was just begging his clientele to pluck from the bunch.
