The cloth invite said it all – track and field on a square piece of cloth runners pin to their chests at the race line. Here though, under the hands of umpire Virgil Abloh, you knew it was going to be a cool new take. Well, gathering from the music stars and kool kids that dress in h-to-t in Off White, it’s clear that Abloh’s legion of fans and athletes have never waned. This season, he set up a track and field indoor runway in an old garage, replete with white chalked lanes and a central oval turf of green. On a large screen showcasing both his logo and the “live” action on the runway, track and field models in luminous green stalked the tracks in hybrid sporty couture fashion that only the young and cool can get away with. The grandest dresses in fluoro neoprene came ruffled and trailing acres of fabric – all the better to make an entrance at the finishing line. Clever cut out revealed glimpses of skintight vests and tailored jackets came with fitted cycle shorts to remind you that you can go from boardroom to gym in a flash.
Of course, having a legion of supermodel friends in the show certainly helped to lift the glamour factor and when you can afford to have both Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner open the show together, it’s really fashion made for the social media frenzied crowd – and no one was going to stop them from racing first to the finishing line
