When Pastel Perfection Takes Over The Runway
Creative Director Windy Aulia takes a page from the naivety story
Many designers have adapted trends from the streets, creating urban-cool looks to entice today’s Gen Z, but with the new season comes a change in the air. Prada, for instance, is preaching a different kind of idyll for resort 2020, sending debutante-like models in pastel creations down the runway—think Mona Lisa Smile with that ’50s boarding-school-girl vibe and primness, served in the form of a baby blue baby-doll dress worn under a flare-cut car coat in a similarly soft hue.
Meanwhile, the simplicity of the A-line silhouette is further amplified with pieces that bear little to no embellishments, like the bone-coloured kimono-style Balenciaga gaberdine coat (9). Wear it over a terracotta Coach leather skirt (7) and a grey Kate Spade New York cardigan (1) to form different degrees of saturation. Keep this ensemble luxurious by splurging on a pair of Gucci silk socks (12) and leather high-top sneakers (11), or even better, an intrecciato Bottega Veneta bag (10) and a Dior diamond watch (5). Top it off with cat-eye glasses (3) and the merest hint of a coquettish smile.
