These Are 2018’s Most Popular Hairstyles From Around The World
With the A-list changing their hair every other day and Fashion Week dictating different trends twice a year, it can seem impossible to keep up with what hairstyles are in, and which ones are out.
Thankfully, our go-to moodboarding site and hair inspiration destination, Pinterest, has been keeping tabs for us. And not just in the UK. They’ve got eyes on the most popular hairstyles hitting the whole globe in 2018.
From laissez-faire messy buns in France and fiery red hair in Mexico, to cute pixie crops in Germany and the Meghan effect side bun right here in the UK, these are the most popular hairstyles in the world, right now.
Between Chanel, Sportmax and Stella Jean, messy buns were all over the AW18 catwalks. So it’s no surprise that leading the way to this season’s hottest hair trend is the most chic country of all, France. Nonchalant and totally effortless, this is the French girl hairstyle we can all achieve.
2. Mexico - Red Hair
Pin Increase: +222%
Red hair is officially back! In Mexico at least. Pins for the fiery hair colour had a surge of over 200% confirming it as one of 2018’s biggest global hair trends. Tweak your red to suit your skin tone and avoid flat, post box shades for a bold look that feels expensive, rather than DIY.
3. US - Braids
Pin Increase: +445%
The most pinned hairstyle to come out of the US? Braids, of course. Whether box braids. boxer braids, dutch braids or anything in between, Americans can’t get enough of the protective hairstyle, with a whopping 445% increase in pins.
4. UK - The Side Bun
Pin increase: +164%
Undoubtedly influenced by royal hair inspiration of the moment, the Duchess of Sussex, the UK is all about wearing our buns low, loose and to the side. Leave any stray tendrils to do their thing for a more effortless take on the royal wedding-approved hairstyle.
Fact – split, feathery fringes haven’t been this popular since Jennifer Aniston rocked out a Friends season 10 hair game changer. And Argentina are feeling the nostalgic hair throwback with searches for flequillo abierto (aka open bangs) up by 150%. Think Camila Cabello over Girls Aloud and you’ll be on the right track.
6. Germany - Pixie Cuts
Pin Increase: +266%
According to Pinterest, Germany is going mad for super short pixie crops this year, with an almost 300% increase in searches. And we’re into it. The shorter, the better. Look to model Gisele Fox and Zoe Kravitz for crops that work with any hair type.
Ever ones to pioneer the latest experimental beauty trend, Japan is feeling the love for ash grey hair with searches up for the edgy hair colour by almost 70%. The easiest way to add a 2018 update to last year’s pastel blonde hair, simply grab yourself a grey toner, soak, and go.
