The film stars Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Andra Day as Holiday, who recreates some of the star’s most iconic on-stage performances, dressed mostly top-to-toe in Prada. The fashion house turned to its archives for the occasion to reinterpret Holiday’s most memorable outfits with a contemporary eye, while honouring the historical time period of the 1940s and 1950s – and the result is nothing short of breathtaking.
“Billie Holiday was a timeless cultural force, imprinting her soulful voice and style on the course of American music and art,” reads a press release from Prada about the brand’s work on the film. “Holiday’s style, like her voice, was melodic and powerful, mirroring her classically iconic and beautifully complex influence on our cultural landscape.”
From silk satin evening gowns to column dresses covered in embellishment, the fashion in the movie is pure escapism. Scroll through to see some of the most striking on-stage ensembles – and look out for the film release on 12 March.
