Happy birthday to Prince Louis!
Ahead of the young royal’s fourth birthday, Kensington Palace released four new portraits of Louis, photographed by mom Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. In the photos, the youngest of the Cambridge children wears a collared shirt under a gray sweater—a look reminiscent of dad Prince William‘s style—and teal shorts while playing on a beach.
Duchess Kate, long known for her love of photography, has previously taken intimate photographs of her children that offer a glimpse into royal life. She also took the official birthday portraits for Prince George‘s eighth birthday last year.
Louis was last seen in the Cambridges’ 2021 holiday card, in which he posed alongside big brother George and six-year-old sister Princess Charlotte, as well as William and Kate. The family, dressed in varying shades of moss green and blue, smile together while sitting against an outdoor, rocky background. The photo was shot during a family trip to Jordan earlier that year.
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cambridge children have had a minimal public presence, though George and Charlotte accompanied their parents to Prince Philip‘s memorial service in March and to this past Easter Sunday service held at St. George’s Chapel. Duchess Kate previously opened up about Louis adjusting to the “new normal” in an interview with BBC Breakfast, saying, “Louis doesn’t understand social distancing. He goes out wanting to cuddle anything, particularly any babies younger than him.”
