The Great Pyramids of Giza, the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the World – a fitting setting for Kim Jones’ latest collection for Dior, filled with grandeur and dramatic flourishes, worn by a whopping cast of 75 models. Against a desert backdrop, sweeping capes and half-kilts emerged like royal garments with a slightly futuristic bent. Paired with 3D-printed desert boots straight out of a sci-fi fantasy, the collection married past and present, combining elements of streetwear with historical influences Jones says were drawn from outer space: “Really, I was looking at two things. The ancient Egyptians were obsessed by astronomy, and Monsieur Dior was obsessed by stars and astrology. And,” he added, “when I go into the desert, I look at the sky.”
