For SGFW 2016 Angie Lai-Tay, founder of local jewellery label ALT, teamed up with LaSalle College of the Arts to showcase the work of seven of its graduates. With Lai-Tay’s simple and graphic pieces tying separate bodies of work together, the audience was treated a preview of the next wave of Singaporean talent.
Chua Gui Ying and Danielle Phua’s FLAT2 opened the show: clean, athletic layers of white were adorned with narrow strips of rainbow embellishment, adding a jolt of vibrancy to the clothes. ESH by Esther Choy followed, with a monochrome series of separates accented with contrasting red trim and featuring outsized pocket details. ARYL CTTO- comprised of designers Agnes Cito and Cheryl Teo- went spotty, splashing ultramarine and orange dots all over relaxed tee shapes and wrap skirts with foldover details. Closing the show were designers Alexis Fong and Amabel Quek of Pandora’s Box, with a fringe-and-strap-heavy collection of short and sheer black dresses.
