It’s not easy to make an audience of seasoned fashion veterans sit up and take notice of your collection at a graduation collection presentation, but that’s exactly what budding fashion designer Joanna Lim did. From the minute ‘Basadung’ (her collection’s name) hit the runway, the tightly edited series of cropped tops, flared skirts, bodysuits and slit dresses captured the attention of the audience, not least because of the copious amount of crystals that shimmered and caught the light as the model sashayed the length of the auditorium stage. All that attention to detail paid off though: Lim was crowned the winner of the year and won herself $10,000 worth of Swarovski crystals for her next collection.
Here, we break down her winning collection by the numbers:
12,282 Swarovski crystals (approximately)
315 beads
143 grommets used
32 metres of fabric used in her collection (materials include neoprene, jersey, velvet and more)
10.5 days to complete her winning slit dress
7 looks
4 weeks: The total time taken to complete the entire collection
