Shopping for the perfect Mother’s Day gift can be tricky. Some mums are picky while others are too easy-going. But as the saying goes: “It is the thought that counts.” Here, the BAZAAR team shares the gifts that we think our mothers will cherish on Mother’s Day and beyond.
When I popped down to Sydney for Christmas, I gave mum a surprise experience at Amy Jean and she loved it. The Brow Lamination got her so excited to see her ruly thick hairs tamed in a glossy upward motion, giving her an instant eye lift. It’s perfect for a night out with dad on the tiles, and since I can’t be there with her, I’ll send her some brow love.
I get my magpie tendencies from mum, who loves jewellery. These ear studs from local jeweller Bliing are perfect for her because it’s a starter kit of sorts: She’s able to wear them alone or dress them up with any of the brand’s convenient add-ons for a different look. She’ll love the concept as much as the looks themselves.
It’s weird to talk about travelling in today’s context, but my mum has been enjoying her retirement life by island-hopping across Indonesia. Speaking of which, it’s about time for her to retire her dinky old overnighter and wheel away with a new cabin luggage.

My mum loves skincare so this year, I’m gifting her this ultra-luxurious Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream EX from Sulwhasoo.
For the past decade, my mother has worn the same reading glasses. Known for creating the famous “third-eye” sunglasses for the late Prince, the Coco and Breezy design optical glasses would make a lovely gift for my mother on Mother’s Day. These glasses are lightweight and sophisticated. The fact that she is a grandma doesn’t mean she has to wear stodgy, old-fashioned glasses.
My mum loves jewellery, so I am getting her a Pandora Moments Heart TBar Snake Chain Bracelet and a mother-and-daughter engraved You’re Always in My Heart Split Dangle Charm.

I love Pandora’s concept where you can mix and match the charm so I can add on more charms on her special day too. I’m also sending her the message “The love between a mother and daughter knows no distance.”
Ever since she retired, my mum has been experimenting a lot more in the kitchen. This kitchen kit — it includes a gorgeous cookbook and pantry staples from the Flamingo Estate — which does the most beautiful things with the produce from the garden would be perfect.

The first thing you need to know about my mother is that she is a fitness and health enthusiast. She’s got an alarm set every day to remind her to book classes on time — a few classes a day if she could. So, a 25-class pass at Lab Studios would be the perfect gift.
My mum loves a good roomy bag and this one fits the bill when it comes to fitting everything she wants to bring with her when she’s out shopping. There are two strap lengths that she can use interchangeably, depending on whether she wants to hand-carry or sling it over the shoulder. The leather is super soft and I expect it to patina nicely, so it’ll look good for years to come — gotta love a stylish, durable and practical bag.
My Bose speakers finally retired after 20-odd years, so while I save up for a retro jukebox, I’m getting Mum, who loves her music, a boombox she can bring with her wherever in the house.

And because she deserves to be especially celebrated twice (a second time on August 12, Mother’s Day in her home country, Thailand), I’ll also be gifting her a table lamp featuring an ever-changing sand landscape, courtesy of an hourglass design element, and taking her out to Ce La Vi for date night against a backdrop she absolutely loves.
I remembered when my mum drove me home from the airport in the early hours after returning from my first solo trip overseas without family when I was 18, she asked me about the meals I would like to have for the day.
But I was a jet-lagged angsty teen at the time so I brushed her off and said I would just like to head to bed and asked her why she was bothering me with questions about what to eat.
It was then that she replied that making sure I always had food to fill myself was the only way she knew how to let me know she loved me. So, for Mother’s Day, I would love to treat her to a nice meal at one of her favourite restaurants in Singapore—Tatsuya—because she loves fine Japanese dishes as much as she’s a stickler for formality
For my mum who could certainly use a few extra Zs, this buttery-soft pyjama set will leave her looking and feeling good after a cosy night’s rest.
This Mother’s Day, I’ll be adding the Coach Kip Turnlock crossbody bag in Signature Chambray to my mum’s bag collection. The size, detachable straps, internal card slots and multifunction internal pockets make for a stylish and practical gift for any woman—particularly my mum, who loves carrying such bags on a day out in town.
My mother is always frugal when it comes to spending on herself, which is why I will be surprising her with the Argan Oil And Alum Stone Face And Body Ritual at St Regis’ Remède Spa. A relaxing massage and facial is exactly what my hardworking mum deserves.
