It wasn’t too long ago that the crowds at Marina Bay Sands got a little shock of their lives when troops of freedom fighters, Frida Kahlo and Michael Jackson passed by them. These liveried individuals were in fact the esteemed guests of Singapore Repertory Theatre’s 25th annual ball, this year’s theme being “Revolution”.

The night kicked off with SRT’s Director, Gaurav Kripalani and Managing Director, Charlotte Nors sharing more about how the Company has revolutionised Singapore’s arts scene and the way theatre has impacted the ways of story-telling. But he also called out to its loyal supporters to continue spreading the word and work of SRT, having faced a dip in theatre-goers due to the abundance of alternative entertainment options…many of which just require a screen and a simple subscription.The mid-dinner auction certainly uplifted this, with many guests helping SRT meet its fundraising goal for the evening by bidding generously for experiences sponsored by Lamborghini, Tiffany & Co. YTL Hotels and the like.

Also doing away with the rules of a traditional gala, this ball saw the dancing start way before dinner, courses served from different restaurants across different cuisines, seating arrangements almost non-existent with everyone just mingling and swapping seats all night long, and an event organiser who seriously looked like Madonna, Olga Iserlis.
