Just Back From...Marrakech

I flew with way too much of everything to be honest. We were flying from Milan and heading straight to Paris afterwards–so my checked baggage situation was a little embarrassing. I have to say one of the things that has most significantly impacted my travel life is incredible luggage. I just sort of mixed and matched random mediocre bags when I traveled in the past. Understandably, when when you're in your 20's, epic pieces of investment luggage are not always high on the splurge list. About a year ago I fell in love with a very pretty Tumi bag. It was a little investment to get the whole set but to be honest, it changed my life. Now I'm basically George Clooney in Up in the Air.

Just Back From...Marrakech

We stayed at LaSultana Oualidia and also LaSultana Marrakech. These hotels are definitely my home away from home. I think I have been there six times, so they're my extended family at this point.

Seeing all of the familiar faces in the souks and at the hotels. Morocco really feels like my second home.

Always the tagine from LaSultana. Maybe that's why I keep coming back.

I'm a sucker for the souks in Oualidia. It's much more laid-back than Marrakech and I love that it's an easygoing beach town.

We had such a fun time riding horses along the beach. Then, we took a paddle boat to a quiet secret spot for a picnic which was pretty magical and a total surprise for me. One day we went on an expedition searching for flamingos. We were not lucky this time–maybe next!

The hotel built a fort for us on the beach at Oualidia and we ate fresh lobster and drank wine on the beach and listened to the calming, nighttime sounds of Morocco. It wasn't a wild night out per say, but it was a perfect, quiet and enchanting one.

Visiting my workshop in Morocco–they are so good at making something out of nothing. We spent a day working together and basically finished the Pre-Fall collection using all different types of things supplied by local artisans.

The souks in general are basically the best sort of 'mall' on the planet. If you look very closely around the souks, you will come upon one very cute secret shop that sells Brother Vellies. Look long and hard, only the brave will discover it.

It is home to one of our very first shoe workshops and the people, colors, sights and smells are endlessly inspiring to me. Africa as a continent is so large and diverse and Morocco is such a great reminder of that!
