These days, if you want to make your mark on the fashion industry as an influencer, it’s not enough to have a blog and a relatively large Instagram following. Those two things are important, sure, but in an age where anyone can start a blog, and followers can be bought, it’s those who really have the X factor who are able to cut through.
Or, based on Forbes’ recently-released list of top influencers, the ones who have really flourished are the bloggers who predicted the power of the Internet back in the ‘dark ages’—like as early as 2004.
Interestingly, the following top 10 influencers don’t necessarily have the most Instagram followers, and their blog readerships have probably taken a dive since the peak of blogging, but they managed to turn their influence into lucrative collaborations with some of the world’s biggest brands. Many have launched their own fashion lines, and have become brands themselves. Their total reach is estimated to be 31,750,000.
Just imagine—if you’d started blogging before 2010, you could have joined the ranks of these Internet fashion stars.
