Here, Angela Loh, co-founder of UltraLuxe, tells us what we can expect at the first-of-its-kind festival bringing a new vision of luxury, her favourite pieces from this year’s installation, and more.

Please give us the summed up low-down on this year’s UltraLuxe.

UltraLuxe is a prestigious festival that promises attendees 10 days of immaculately curated luxury creations from independent designers all over the world. It is a culmination of talents and passions that breathe life to the concept of purposeful luxury across jewellery, timepieces, fashion and living. It also signifies many firsts—not only is this its debut event, it is also the launch of the first-ever Advocacy Show and Singapore Watch Fair.

At UltraLuxe 2022, we are advocating a differentiated and expanded vision of luxury. We want to meet the growing demand among high-net-worth consumers for meaningful and purposeful designs, by meticulously curating pieces from local and independent designers from across the globe and showcasing their creations for all to see. In our drive to broaden the appreciation of exclusive and unique pieces, we have numerous opportunities lined up for consumers to meet and learn from the designers themselves, to build that connection and deepen their understanding about the stories behind these investible pieces. We are also offering attendees a holistic experience by expanding into the digital sphere, giving consumers the option to touch and see the pieces in person before making a purchase decision—be it in person at the show or online. UltraLuxe is thus, the perfect springboard for local designers and independent brands to
showcase their creations on a global stage.

Statistics for this year:

  • Nearly 90 designers from all over the world – local and independent designers from
jewellery, timepiece, fashion and living brands
  • 200 million worth of high-octane gems and jewels
  • Up to 800sqm of custom-built space, outside Ngee Ann City, in the heart of Orchard
    Road

Can you tell us more about UltraLuxe’s brand proposition, the “Luxury of Niche”?

UltraLuxe’s luxury of niche encompasses the exclusive, iconic and legacy-status jewellery,
timepiece, fashion and living styles by world class independent brands from around the globe. These include the investible and collectibles that are sought after and admired by the affluent and influential in the different cities in the world.

We discover and present celebrated designers of other cities that are much loved by their local customers—much like homegrown designers such as Caratell, State Property, and Flower Diamond to Singaporeans.

Was there a particular moment that convinced you that this was the year to launch this 3-in-1 concept?

From our observations over the past two years, there was continued demand for luxury collectibles, which is still present as we emerge from the pandemic. This, together with the easing of restrictions and the Singapore government’s focus on reviving the economy presented us a perfect opportunity to launch this holistic concept that includes fashion and living alongside jewellery and watches.

There is a strong current for shopping the unique and purposeful coming out of the pandemic, not to mention the demand for large-scale shopping events that are of quality and are meaningful.

The Singapore Watch Fair is the ultimate platform for watchmakers, collectors, horologists and enthusiasts to come together to showcase their creations and deepen their understanding and appreciation of the art of watch-making. It is also an opportunity for them to foster relationships as well as learn from each other during the panel sessions. Attendees can also look forward to the experiential activities that we have planned, including historical displays and world-class watch-making content.

The Advocacy Show is focused on purposeful luxury that sustains and elevates nature, culture, talent passions and the community, and is the first-ever exhibition that enables cross-industry collaboration. It will feature brands from all over the world that incorporate meaning and purpose into their creations, and bring the fashion, jewellery and living spheres together to present a whole new experience of shopping for a new generation of consumers.

If you had to sum up your hopes for this year’s installation in just 1 sentence, what would it be?

I hope to elevate and widen our shoppers’ appreciation for iconic and unique design and craft; their understanding and desires ideally driven by their connection with the artists, talents and/or craftsmen’s creativity and curatorial passions.

Can you share some design highlights from this year’s installation that are your personal favourites?
