Zendaya won us over as a modern, sophisticated version of Joan of Arc at this year’s Met Gala: Heavenly Bodies. Zendaya perfectly channeled the military figure — who was canonized as a Roman Catholic saint in the 15th Century — and was ready for battle in “armour” of tiny studs and sequins, and stylized with neck and shoulder plates. It was all curated by Versace, and all fabulous on this girl. Photo: Shutterstock

“Zendaya rejects Met Gala theme”, screamed the headlines when she turned up in this showstopper from Dolce & Gabbana. The theme, btw, was Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons, an invitation to embrace all things avant-garde and anti-fashion. Zendaya was resplendent as she made her statement — that she marches to the beat of her own drum — in this vivid ballgown. Photo: Shutterstock

She was blessed with height (she stands at 1.78m tall) and she chose to drape this Marchesa three-tiered gown over her enviable frame when she attended the Golden Globe Awards 2016. For the after-party, she effectively shortened the dress to mid-calf by tucking the second layer of the crinoline gown into itself so she could dance. Smart move, Zendaya. Photo: Shutterstock

At Rihanna’s Second Annual Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) Diamond Ball Gala — an event to raise funds for the CLF’s global education, health and emergency response programmes worldwide — our birthday girl was radiant in this two-piece by Rosie Assoulin.
