4 Creative Ways To Wear A Watch, Including As A Choker

Time to step up your style game.

Watches are more than a timekeeping device—they can serve as edgy jewellery and clothing too. Taylor Swift had the Internet enthralled with a dazzling watch choker at the recent 2024 Grammys but there is more than one way to rock a timepiece unconventionally. Harper’s BAZAAR breaks down the coolest ways to wear watches just like an A-lister. Check ‘em out below.

While this trend is simply a variation of the sautoir watch silhouette, it has a chokehold on watch enthusiasts and fashionistas all over the world. Shape and size do not matter. Rihanna, for example, wore a bejewelled 47mm Brilliant Flying Tourbillon Watch Choker by Jacob & Co. to attend Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton debut last year. OG fashion girlie, Emma Chamberlain, was spotted in October 2023 wearing a contemporary Cartier Baignoire with thin black leather straps around her neck during Paris Fashion Week.

This trend is also a great way to revive a preloved watch that hasn’t seen the light of day for a while. Doja Cat took on the Hot Ones gauntlet with a multi-layered vintage watch choker with charms.

As for Swift, she opted for a discontinued Concord watch that was given new life with a black diamond bracelet by American jeweller Lorraine Schwartz

If chokers aren’t your thing, follow Riri’s footsteps and go with an anklet instead. The multi-hyphenate sported a US$400,000 diamond watch anklet that was custom-made by Jacob & Co. at the Las Vegas Grand Prix in 2023. The stunning timepiece stood out even more against her all-black ensemble.

AS A HAIRTIE

This is probably the coolest way to wear a watch in 2024, at least for now. Reality TV star Danya Mohammed of Netflix’s Dubai Bling upped the ante during one of her confessionals with a Rolex watch sitting on top of her head. This luxurious and iconic moment truly baffled the Internet and TikTok creators had a field day reacting to this scene. While this is a novel way of wearing a watch, it would be best to try this out with a less precious timepiece that you wouldn’t mind getting loose and hitting the ground.

Take a page out of Julia Fox’s radical style handbook with an ensemble made out of pre-owned watches. Last September, Fox took New York Fashion Week by storm with an upcycled watch belt top and mini skirt by British streetwear label 1XBLUE. Both pieces are made-to-order using watches that are individually sourced, making them totally unique. The brand also offers custom watch heels to complete the ensemble.
