When Coco Chanel was alive, she believed strongly in the power of symbols and charms such as lions (her astrological sign), the Maltese cross (a recurring motif in her childhood) and rock crystals, which were believed to endow their wearers with protective energy. Drawing on her arcane beliefs, the Chanel High Jewellery collection, 'Les Talismans de Chanel', is an ode to these symbols and totems, albeit ones fashioned in precious metals and stones.
Several themes run through the collection—Envoûtante, Magnétique, Charismatique, Solaire, Secrète, Fascinante and Attirante—each dedicated to translating Mademoiselle Chanel's favourite symbols into unique jewellery pieces unlike any seen in the world. Familiar motifs such as the Maltese cross and camellia flower are expressed here in delicate enamelling and fluid lines.
