How are you enjoying the city during the Olympic Games?
We were actually here three weeks ago, just as they were preparing for the Olympic Games. So it’s great to see how much work they’ve put into it and how it’s flowing so well. They’ve really worked it out beautifully.
What events have you seen so far?
We went and saw the skateboarding yesterday. That was impressive. I couldn’t believe how young those girls were but they were just badass. Then we also went to the swimming last night. That’s an amazing spectator experience. It feels like you’re in a nightclub the way they were doing it last night.
Did you get to witness any medals being won?
We watched Léon Marchand get the Olympic Record in the medley. That was beautiful. Being part of that whole French atmosphere, it was just electric. We were sitting around so many French spectators and it was all so unified. We were all together just wanting him to win. Then he just took off, took the lead, and that was it. Of course, we then had the French national anthem being played, it was all so beautiful.

Are you supporting Australia or the USA?
We’re supporting both! It depends on the event. We really wanted one of the Aussie girls to win in the swimming last night, and she did.
But what if they come up against each other in a race?
Again, it depends. There’s actually an American girl in swimming who went to one of my daughter’s schools. So in that case, we were definitely going for them in the US team.
Are you sporty yourself?
I play tennis, I love running, and I love swimming. I think that’s just being Australian. You participate in sports really early on. But I’m also a great spectator. I love watching. I love to cheer people on big time.
Do you have any special memories from the Olympic Games?
I actually went to the London Olympics. I went to the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. We were meant to go to Tokyo, but obviously, that couldn’t happen. We were so disappointed, so this one in Paris feels like the first big one back in a long time.

Why do you think the world is so fascinated with the Olympic Games?
It’s hope. It’s about us all having some hope. Hope for every single athlete that comes here. That’s really what I love seeing people so united on. As an athlete, if you can tell people that you went to the Olympics, you have that for the rest of your life. It’s about competing, but it’s also about experiencing so much joy.
Are you inspired by the athletes themselves?
Of course. I think it’s the dedication, the determination, and the ability to handle where you place or if you don’t place, that can be so devastating. I find the resilience of these athletes is pretty extraordinary. And then you see the people who have gone to so many Olympics and they seem to defy age. But on the other hand, you have the young hopefuls that come along and suddenly you think, ‘oh my gosh, they’re so young.’ The Olympic Games crosses all demographics and everyone is part of it.
You’ve also seen OMEGA’s timekeeping in action. What do you think it takes to do that job?
OMEGA is just incredibly professional and obviously really dedicated to sports. It’s a heritage that goes back 92 years, so for me, the logo is just synonymous with the Olympic Games. It must be a high-stress job, right? But their timekeeping is exceptional and the reason I love coming is that OMEGA is a people brand, so like the Olympic Games itself, they bring people together.
And you love a vintage OMEGA, right?
Whenever I go to a really black-tie event, I’ll say to OMEGA, what have you got that’s one-of-a-kind and extraordinary? They lend me things out of the vintage collection and your jaw just drops.
And finally, which OMEGA watch is your gold medal champion?
I change all the time. But the Ladymatic is probably the one that I am always drawn to. But I have a daughter who is now obsessed as well. She’s more sporty than me but she’s wearing a Ladymatic here in Paris. She’s just got style.
