Score with Ronaldo!

Known for his collection of superlative, gem-encrusted watches, Portuguese soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo has collaborated with independent watchmaker Jacob & Co. to launch a collection of watches named the CR7 Epic X. The co-branded collection features the hallmarks of Jacob & Co.’s Epic X collection including bold X-shaped lugs, coloured crown and flanges, as well as a 44mm case - in addition to highly-personalised details inspired by Ronaldo. The first models to debut are Flight of CR7 and Heart of CR7, the former featuring details in red and the latter in green – the two main colours of the Portuguese national flag. On both watches, the left pillar on the dial is crafted in the shape of Ronaldo, while on the right are engravings of his logo and signature. This special collaboration will take place over the next five years, with more exclusive novelties to be unveiled in time.

Theatrical Moments

Among the many peculiarities used in watchmaking, the ‘wandering hours’ represent one of the lesser-known functions. Invented in the 17th century, this function displays the hours by using a system of satellites which move alongside a minute scale laid out in the shape of an arc. As time went by, this unique way of telling time was nearly forgotten before being rediscovered in 1991 by Audemars Piguet. Named the Starwheel, this complication presents a unique aesthetic that makes reading the time both interesting and fun. After being absent from the Swiss watchmaker’s lineup for nearly two decades, the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Starwheel honours this long-lost watchmaking tradition through an ultra-contemporary design with a black ceramic case and white gold bezel, on top of an aventurine dial with rotating discs in black opaline. Its display is a theatrical production all in itself, and one that will definitely capture others' attention and start conversations.
