Is The Apple Watch Hermès Collab Over?

The short answer is no

Apple is steadily working towards their goal of net zero carbon by the year 2030, but it was still surprising to hear that they are removing the use of leather as a material for all their accessories at this morning's Apple Keynotes event. Not too shocking for the average consumer, but what does this mean for the Apple Watch x Hermès collaboration?

The partnership, which began in 2015, was the result of a mutual love for beautiful design and exceptional know-how. Hermès, a House known for its leather craftsmanship and artistry, started its empire making leather saddles, but that reputation for leather artistry now sits atop thousands upon thousands of Birkins, Kellys and Constances.

With its reputation for high-quality leather, and Apple's decision to discontinue the use of leather in their accessories, you'd be quick to assume that this meant the end of the partnership (trust me - I did, too). Have no fear, however; Hermès has just unveiled their latest watch band designs for Apple's newest Series 9 watches.

Nobody Panic

Instead of focusing on the use of leather, the Apple Watch Hermès Series 9 bands spotlight the use of technical innovation and materials like webbing, knit, and rubber to show off meticulous designs and artistry. The results?

Gorgeous knitted bands reminiscent of an equestrian bridle, featuring brilliant use of webbing weave in the Toile H and Twill Jump, and intertwining "Hs" of waterproof rubber.

If leather is still your material of choice, the new Clou de selle pays homage to the house's leatherworking expertise and equestrian roots with the use of Barénia leather.
