A few notable takeaways: Chadwick Boseman is up for best actor in a motion picture for his performance in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom opposite Viola Davis, who's a front-runner in the best actress category. Both Anya Taylor-Joy and Olivia Colman are nominated in two categories: the former for best actress in a comedy (Emma.) and best actress in a limited series (The Queen's Gambit), the latter for best supporting actress (The Father) and best actress in a TV series (The Crown).

Further, awards hopeful Minari starring Steven Yeun, which centres on a Korean immigrant family in the United States, has been siloed to the foreign language category. Variety noted that the same happened to Lulu Wang's The Farewell last year. And as the LA Times pointed out, this is the first year women are in the running for best director since 2014. Regina King (One Night in Miami), Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman), and Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) are all nominees. Notable snubs include Michaela Coel’s groundbreaking show, I May Destroy You, and Spike Lee latest’s joint, Da 5 Bloods.

The 2021 Golden Globes will air live on Sunday, February 28, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting together once again. Check out the rest of the nominees below.
