The Projector

Having officially opened its doors this year, the independent cinema will occupy the historic Golden Theatre to screen specially curated arthouse and cult films. Film buffs will also delight in the fact that The Projector will not screen films that have been cut. Featuring a single screen classic cinema hall with 220 seats, the Green Room will be the main screening hall for films curated by The Projector. There is also a multi-purpose space dedicated to special screening called the Redrum (inspired by Kubrick’s The Shining) and a foyer café, A La Cart, which provides yummy nibbles and beverages for filmgoers.

The Projector is located at 6001 Beach Road, #05-00 Golden Mile Tower.

  1. The Screening Room

Cozy and intimate, The Screening Room offers a unique experience for film lovers who want to get their celluloid fix away from the hustle and bustle of the cineplex crowd. Its monthly roster of thought-provoking independent films and Hollywood classics are screened in its luxurious Boutique Film Theatre, where guests can take in the cinematic fare on plush sofas with champagne in hand. At night, the theatre transforms into a champagne lounge where guests can listen to great music while sampling bespoke cocktails. Previous flicks have included One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Black Swan and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

The Screening Room is located at 12 Ann Siang Rd.

  1. Shaw Theatres Lido

A stalwart cinema that has been screening Hollywood blockbusters to generations of Singaporeans, the recently renovated Shaw Theatres Lido recently upped its arthouse cred by hosting A Design Film Festival. Organised by local multidisciplinary studio Anonymous, the festival screens a special selection of films dedicated to architecture, fashion, photography, street art, motion graphics, technology and the subcultures of design. Other than bringing a biopic on the late Yves Saint Laurent to fashionphiles here last year, it most recently presented the Asian premiere of Dior and I, charting Raf Simons’ first haute couture collection for the house of Dior.

Shaw Theatres Lido is located at 50, Orchard Road, 5th/6th Floor, Shaw House.
