Amber Heard's lawyer has denied claims that the actress is blackmailing Johnny Depp. Heard's lawyer, Peter Sample, wrote a letter to The Wrap denouncing rumours that she's divorcing Depp for money or that her domestic violence claims were fake.

"Allegations against Ms. Heard are absolutely and unequivocally false," Sample wrote. He added that the blackmail claim "has no basis in reality and is nothing but the typical celebrity muckraking for profit."

The lawyer specifically targeted statements made by comedian Doug Stanhope, who earlier wrote an op-ed in The Wrap defending Depp, his close friend, and slandering Heard. The article is titled "Johnny Depp Is Being Blackmailed by Amber Heard—Here's How I Know." Sample called Stanhope's claims "outrageous."

Two days before Stanhope's story was published, Heard filed a restraining order against Depp. She appeared in court with her lawyer to present photos of "various bruises" that she acquired during her marriage.

Although neither Depp nor Heard have personally commented on the restraining order, Depp did make a public statement about divorce:

"Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life. Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly."

The couple, who married in February 2015, announced plans for divorce last week due to "irreconcilable differences."
