Art In Tribute: Garden City By Phunk

Spring awakening

PHUNK, Garden City, 2015

This week, in the lead up to our nation’s 50th birthday we bring you an exclusive series of portraits dedicated to our founding father Lee Kuan Yew. In a modern graphic interpretation, PHUNK grafts blooming gardens into literal meaning with their bold rendering of Lee's dream of having a garden city.

"It's no secret that Mr Lee had a passion for botany, and his tree-planting campaign is well-known to every Singaporean. This little city could have easily been another concrete jungle if not for his efforts to keep nature intact. Mr Lee was the chief gardener of Singapore, PHUNK celebrates the endeavours that made us a garden city."—as told to Harper's Bazaar Singapore.
