Blackpink’s ‘Kill This Love’ Is Breaking Youtube Records

The new video is already a smash success

Formed in 2016, Blackpink (made up of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa) was highly anticipated in the K-pop scene as it was the first girl group to come from YG Entertainment, home to powerhouse groups like BIGBANG and 2NE1, in seven years. Their debut song, “Boombayah” made the group the fastest musical act, at the time, to hit No. 1 on Billboard’s World Digital Songs chart, and their success continued with additional releases the following year.

Now, in its first 24 hours, Blackpink’s music video for “Kill This Love” has reached 56.7 million YouTube views. It then went on to earn 100 million views in less than three days. That’s the fastest any music video has reached either milestone, and it makes “Kill This Love” the biggest music video debut in YouTube history – unseating Ariana Grande‘s “Thank You, Next,” which had 55.4 million views in its first 24 hours.

YouTube’s biggest 24-hour debuts

Blackpink – Kill This Love, 56.7 million

Ariana Grande – Thank U, Next, 55.4 million

BTS – IDOL Official, 45.9 million

Taylor Swift – Look What You Made Me Do, 43.2 million

Eminem – Killshot, 38.1 million

Blackpink also currently holds the title for most-viewed music video by a K-pop group on YouTube for their 2018 single “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du”.
