Having garnered a plethora of fans in his role as Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, in BridgertonRegé-Jean Page is already contending with rumors that he might be the next James Bond.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the host said, "The internet has decided that you're a frontrunner to be the next James Bond. They all want it to happen. I want this to happen. The betting odds right now are at 5/1. ... Is there anything you want to tell us tonight?"

Page addressed the 007 rumors and replied, "I think the internet thinks a lot of things, and that's one of the more pleasant ones. So I can please as far as that goes."

"I think there might be an element of cultural translation to be done here," he continued. "Like if you're a Brit, and you do something of any kind of renown, that people regard well, then people start saying the 'B' word. It's like a merit badge, you get the 'B' word merit badge."

However, the actor was quick to downplay the idea that he might be the next James Bond and said, "But I don't think it's much more than that. I'm very, very glad to have the badge. I'm glad to be in such wonderful company of people who have the badge. But it's a badge."

As for the rumors that Page might be on the list to play James Bond once Daniel Craig steps down, betting site Ladbrokes told Variety, "Tom Hardy still leads the way as favorite, with James Norton close behind in second place. But it really is all to play for in the race for 007 and RJP has a great chance if the odds are anything to go by."
