Britney Spears is reflecting on her monumental past year.
The pop star shared a nostalgic clip on her Instagram yesterday, in what appears to be a very subtle year-in-review. In the video, hundreds of birds are released from a truck and fly in a loop formation before heading off into the distance. The “Stronger” singer called the clip “symbolic” in her caption, and seems to be comparing herself to the birds freed from the cage.
“SYMBOLIC of my year this year 👗👗👗👙👙👙 !!!!!” she wrote.

2021 was a life-changing year for Spears, with her 14-year-long conservatorship ending last November. The legal arrangement, which gave her father Jamie Spears control of her professional, personal, and financial affairs, was terminated by a California judge after the #FreeBritney movement went mainstream, with millions of Britney’s fans and countless public figures calling for an end to the conservatorship. The star also got engaged to her longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari in September.
For the past two months, the 40-year-old star has shared her experiences under the conservatorship and what she wants for her life going forward on her Instagram. She mentioned her wishes for the new year in a now-deleted post earlier this week, and also revealed that she’s planning to take a step back from music.
“Last year was growth for me… I still have a ways to go!!! My goal for this year is to push myself a bit more and do things that scare me but not too much I mean geez!!!! We are just people and I’m not superwoman, but I do know what makes me happy and brings me joy and I try to meditate on those places and thoughts that enable me to experience it.”
