Love can easily be written off as a myth when the high-profile couples of today seem to have an equally high turnover rate (Liam and Miley, you guys really had me there for a second). Still, Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson are here to remind us that romance is not yet something to completely forsake.
In Delevingne’s September 2019 cover story for Marie Claire, Benson loomed as a major talking point for the model, actress, and burgeoning musician, and she had the sweetest things to say about their relationship.
“We weren’t looking for it,” Delevingne said of Benson. The couple met as costars on the set of the 2018 film Her Smell. “It was really just very authentic and natural.”
Growing up, Delevingne struggled with her identity, adding that she repressed her sexuality and attraction to women for years because she “didn’t want to feel different, even though from an early age I always felt I didn’t belong.”
Last June, nonprofit organization The Trevor Project honored Delevingne’s commitment to advocating for LGBTQ+ rights with the Hero Award. “This is a really big deal for me,” Delevingne told Marie Claire. “I never thought I’d be awarded something for being part of this community.”
In her acceptance speech, she also acknowledged Benson’s transformative presence in her life, “She’s one of the people who helped me love myself when I needed it most.”
