Both Cardi and Megan took to Twitter over the weekend to celebrate the one-year anniversary of their smash collaboration, and went on to tease fans about the possibility of the two rappers working together again for a follow-up track.
“Wow I can’t believe wappity WAP turned one today. It don’t even feel like it. What a record! @theestallion we should do it again sometime,” Cardi wrote on Twitter.
Megan then quote-tweeted Cardi’s message, adding “Happy WAPIVERSARY Thank you for having me , I think the people deserve another collab.”
The accompanying music video for “WAP” essentially broke the Internet last summer with its star-studded visuals featuring high-profile cameos from women including Rosalía, Normani, and Kylie Jenner. The song also became a pseudo-feminist anthem for those who aren’t afraid of taking charge of their sexuality.
While the song was a hit, conservative figureheads expressed their discontent with the single, which Megan previously said only helped the song’s overall success.
“I feel like that [backlash] was a little weird. I know the Republicans have been having a bad year and they probably needed to take their frustration out somewhere,” Megan said during an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “But I want to tell them, ‘Thank you for the streams because, without you, I don’t know if we would’ve been here.’ But, no. Them people crazy.”
